On Saturday 10/29, beginning at noon, Occupy Albany will welcome Occupy participants from cities throughout the state for New York’s “Occupy Your Capital” day. Protestors will be gathering in state capitals across the country on Saturday in a show of commitment and unity. We are also extending the invitation to any area Occupy groups within a 100 mile radius. So please forward widely. The day’s activities will include a march, arts events, speak-outs and community teach-ins. A ‘statewide’ General Assembly will take place at 3pm, followed by a Regional Coordination working group meeting at 5pm at the Lafayette Park Memorial. There will be no attempt to make overarching decisions for the Occupy movement in New York State; instead, this meeting will serve as a forum for reports from Occupy groups in numerous cities and for the sharing of ideas. Occupy Albany is committed to a Good Neighbor policy. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted, and nonviolence is demanded. Peaceful and sober people who bring food are ever so slightly more welcome. The Food working group will be on hand serving food throughout the day. If you would like to initiate and organize a workshop, art event, action, speak-out, etc we encourage you to do so. You can email us at the contact below to can get the event posted on our calendar. We respectfully request that attendees refrain from parking on Elk Street on the north side of the park so as to allow residents there to park near their homes. There is free street parking on weekends on many surrounding streets in nonresidential locations, and the Capital District Transportation Authority also offers several Park & Ride lots with service to the State Capital/City Hall/Academy Park area. http://cdta.org/ There is also a forum on Occupy Albany’s message boards for those wishing to share rides — go to the Transportation section at http://occupyalbany.proboards.com and look for Rideshare to Occupy Your Capital Day. The message forums and a wealth of other information and resources may also be accessed through http://occupyalbany.org/ Please RSVP to me if you know some in your group are coming. Looking forward to joining together. In solidarity, Hezzie Johanson (one of the PR working group at Occupy Albany) OccupyAlbanyPR@gmail.com
